History: Sisu spent his early childhood living in Helsinki, Finland, with his older sister who had a promising career as a textile designer. When Sisu was around four or five, he was diagnosed with childhood leukemia. His sister (whom he calls “sisko”, the Finnish word for sister) decided to give up her career to move them both to Philadelphia, the site of a world renowned children's hospital for leukemia patients. He spent the next five years or so in and out of the hospital for treatment and chemotherapy. It was at this time that Sisu developed a skill / coping mechanism that would eventually lead him to play HIC; his ability to completely lose himself a task for hours. Whenever he'd start to feel scared in the hospital, he'd find something to distract himself, whether it was a game, book or show, and just devote his attention to it completely for as long as he could manage. Over the years, he flitted from game to game, whether it was a console based adventure game or a browser based pet site.
When he was around ten, his leukemia entered the remission that it's been in ever since, but his habit of focusing various media remained. For a long time, he didn't really interact with other people too much on the games that he played, but after a while he began to find that just doing things by himself wasn't enough anymore. He began to ask himself, what did he beat cancer for? He knew he didn't want to die, but he no longer knew what he wanted to do. Finally, he realized that if he couldn't answer that question, maybe he could find the answer in other people, so when he started playing HIC he joined a guild and started talking to people for once.
He currently still lives in Philadelphia with his sister, who runs a small fabric / clothing store that the both of them live above. Her goal is to eventually raise enough money to move back to Finland after paying Sisu's medical bills. Sisu occasionally helps out in the store when they're especially busy, but he's not that interested in fabric and doesn't do well with customers, so his sister mostly just leaves him to his own devices. She does occasionally demand that he be her model for her clothing designs, though.
Personality: Sisu is basically a well meaning awkward dork who tries way too hard. He doesn't have a huge amount of experience in conversation and often says things that don't quite make sense or aren't relevant to interrupt the conversation flow. While he used to have no idea why sometimes conversation would dry up after he said something, he's started to catch on and now often apologizes profusely if he thinks he said something weird.
Since starting to play HIC, he's been trying really hard to make friends, to an extent that is just kind of uncomfortable. He'll often give away all of his grist or boondollars to guildmates especially in an effort to get them to like him. While he's not really dishonest by nature, he sort of falls into casual lying easily if he thinks that's what people want to hear. He's not especially chatty normally but every now and then he can just sort of get caught up in wordvomit where he has a hard time stopping himself from talking. When he talks to people, he likes to learn about them and will often ask them lots of questions that might be a little weird. He's not exactly smart in a logic way, he has a hard time putting two and two together and is a little slow on the uptake, but he does have a great memory and thus can be surprisingly educated on topics he's learned about.
Sisu has a bit of history of being mistaken as female, both online and in real life, especially after he started growing his hair out, which he's been doing ever since his final chemotherapy treatment. It wasn't really much of an issue online before HIC, mostly because his interactions with others were pretty limited so he didn't see much point in correcting them. But he doesn't really have much of an issue when people misgender him, he just doesn't think it's a big deal. He'll even say that he IS female online if he thinks that's what people want to hear. It's entirely possible that many of his guildmates think that he is a girl at the start of the game.
While he's not terribly picky in his interests, he tends to be most interested in media that he can really throw himself into, like long book series, movies that also have a lot of spin off material, games with no ends, that sort of thing. He doesn't see much appeal in movies, tv shows or video games that don't have a fantastical element to them. Music, however, he is much more broad in his tastes about, mostly because he hates silence so if he's doing something that doesn't create its own sound, he always has music playing. He even sleeps with music on a low volume. While he doesn't especially like schooling, he's always done quite well in his homeschooling assessments, mostly because he's good at memorization and that is 90% of what is actually tested.
It doesn't come up too often, but he has a bit of a mortality complex. When he was a kid, it didn't really occur to him just how final death was or how close he was to it. But since getting older, he's realized how terrifying death is, how all the people he knew in the hospital who died are now gone for good, how that could have so easily been him. Because of this, he's a little fanatical in doing things to stay healthy and safe. Additionally, if he finds out someone he cares about is doing something unhealthy or unsafe, he will probably lose his mind and do anything he can to stop it. On a related note, he's fascinated by creatures and plants that live an unusually long time or are hard to kill, like parrots or succulents.
Appearance: The first thing most people notice about Sisu is his long reddish brown hair, which he normally lets go unbound unless he's in focus mode, at which point he generally pulls it back into a low ponytail. It reaches past his waist and is very well cared for, with hardly any split ends. His face is not exactly pretty, but it is soft enough to appear mildly feminine, at least at first glance. He's not quite short enough to be short, but not tall enough to be tall. He's mildly underweight due to frequently forgetting to eat, which is a habit he's trying to break, and he tries to stay active. Most of his muscle comes from exercises he can do in his room, like push ups and laps on his treadmill. He pretty much wears loose and comfy clothing, mostly a lot of sweaters and drawstring pants, and he does have a noted preference for novelty socks which he wears almost exclusively. He also has a very slight Finnish accent, largely from his sister's influence.

You don't really understand fashion, which always makes you a little uncomfortable when your sister asks you to model a piece of clothing she just finished. As you spin around once at her request, she asks you if you think it looks nice, to which you have literally no idea how to respond. You don't know what makes a dress look good or not!
“It's...... comfortable? Kind of loose on top, though.”
“Well, of course it's loose, it's made for a girl! And comfortable wasn't what I was asking, what do you think of the cut? How it drapes? Do you think it casts a nice silhouette?”
“Sisko, I don't know! It's a dress! It does dress things!”
You feel a little guilty as she sighs. “Well, do me a favor and wear it for a little bit, let me know if any part of it starts to feel uncomfortable, at least. Then I'll know if I can start selling the pattern downstairs.”
You nod and make a hasty exit back into your room, where you log onto HIC and join the guild chat. Later on that day, you would idly comment about the dress without thinking much of it, which unbeknownst to you at the time, only served to strengthen the belief of most guildmembers that you were a girl.
